To the Class of 1988

As you complete all of the academic requirements
for Silver Lake Regional School District, may they
only be a small portion of what our goal and inten-
tions were for you. It is not merely in the best in-
terest of mankind to complete something for com-
pletion sake. It is our intense desire that your ex-
periences at Silver Lake have provided you with op-
portunities and a quest to further grow academic-
ally, socially, emotionally, and physically. I am sure
that all of you feel that the Class of 1988 is a special
one and rightly so. Hopefully, you have been prov-
ided with the necessary fundamental char-
acteristics that will permit you to make an easy
transition into further educational opportunities
and/or into the world of work. Whatever you
choose, be committed to what you are doing and do
it to the best of your ability. It is with this commit-
ment to excellence that you believe in your own
capabilities. Mahapma Ghandi stated, "Man often
becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on
saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is
possible that I may end up by really becoming in-
capable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the
belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire that cap-
acity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginn-
ing. The future is yours, mold it, bend it, form it,
and make it what you, our future generation, want
it to be." May I extend to all members of the gradu-
ating Class of 1988 a most sincere note of con-
gratulations and commend you for serving as posi-
tive role models for others to follow.

Sincerely,

Paul A. Squarcia

Superintendent of Schools

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1988.
This year you are completing twelve years of formal
public education. But, just as certainly, this year
serves as a beginning as well. May the knowledge
and maturity that you have gained help you to suc-
cessfully meet the challenges and responsibilities of
your life as an adult. It is important that each of you
fulfill your potential and recognize that your contri-
butions as an individual to society are important
and could make a difference in this world.
All of us in the Silver Lake Regional School District
are proud of your accomplishments to date and
hope that you will achieve happiness and success in
the years ahead. Take fuU advantage of your talents
and enjoy life to its fullest.

John J. Aheme

Assistant Superintendent

for Secondary Education

To The Class of 1988:

The Class of 1988 is very special to me. You are the first
class to complete your four years of education and
graduate during my principalship. From the wide-
eyed, awe-struck ninth graders who entered Silver
Lake in September, 1984, you have developed physi-
cally, intellectually, morally and socially into a talen-
ted and sophisticated group of young men and
women. You are ready to accept the yet unknown
challenges which the world may offer. Challenges
bring out an individual's character, as Abigail Adams
said in a letter written to her son John Quincy Adams,
'Tt is not in the still calm of life . . . that great chal-
lenges are formed . . . Great necessities call out great
virtues."

I hope that each of you strives to reach your full po-
tential in all that you do, and pray that you remember
Silver Lake as kindly as your principal will remember
you.

The boy's soccer team had its best over all season with a record of
14-3-3 and two tournaments games under their belt. From the
victory over Plymouth Carver to the Penalty Shootout at Durfee,
it was a season full of suspense and talent. Led by Coach, Mr. Bill
Johnson and his tri-captains Mike Enriquez, Kevin Orcutt, and
Deane Lawrence it was a season full of success. Although the

Coach — Mr. J. Darche

The boys cross country team finished with a 4-4 rec-
ord. They performed much better than Coach Darche
had expected. Coach Darche felt that the boys put out
their best effort in every meet. Highlights for the sea-
son were the wins over Hingham and the excellent
individual performance in the Old Colony League
meet. Seniors on the team were Captain T. Toler, D.
Rakauskas, and J. Hawley as well as B. Powers, and
M. Villonova.

Coach — J. Darche

The 3-5 record of the girls cross country
team was not a true measure of their efforts.
Coach Darche felt his team was strong, but
the competition was even stronger. The
highlight of the season was the victory over
Hingham High School. It was a veteran
team made up of Senior Co-Captains, A.
Kelly and M. O'Donnell, as well as A.
Gavigan, M. Tolman, M. Peterson, M. St.

Coach — Miss Audette

The 1987-88 edition of the Girls Soccer team had a fine 10-7-1 record. The team consisted of Senior players D.
Davidson, T. Mosher, K. Brogna, and Co-Captains, T. Gauthier and D. Chapman, as well as a blend of
talented under classmen. Coache Audette expects to improve on this years record by using the younger
players to their best abUity.

The Golf team had a 7-5 season. Coach Shultz felt that the team would have a winning season and they
didn't fall short. The 1987 team missed the State tournament by only one match. The team had seven
seniors on it. S. Dorsey, E. Doherty, G. Brown, T. McAuliffe, F. Murphy, M. Dickson and R. Stack all
contributed during the year. The highlights of the season was a victory over Marshfield High School.

Coach Mr. S. Fernandez

This years team relied on quick-
ness, great work ethic, and tradi-
tional Laker pressure defense, to
attain many of its goals. They
provided Laker fans with many
exciting moments. Among the
seasons highlights were early
season upsets over Marshfield
and Dom Savio. Because of valu-
able experience obtained by this
years Juniors, we expect a
seasoned effort next year. Seniors
Jon Noris, Erik Hammerquist,
Tim Nickerson, and Capt. Peter
Walsh were very unselfish, loyal
teammates who gave their all and
never quit all year long.

Coach Mr. R. Steele

With four returning Se-
niors from last years squad,
the Girls Basketball team
was looking to improve on
last years record. The team
worked very hard and at
the halfway point of the
season had won more than
they lost and were looking
forward to making the
State Tournament. Next
years team, with a lot of off
season work, should com-
fortably be able to compete
for the Old Colony League
title. Seniors this year were
Tiffany Mosher, Lisa Nick-

COACH: T. Harrington

The 1988 wrestling team worked very hard for
coach Tom Harrington. Competition was very
tough for varsity spots.

Individually speaking, many of our wrestlers
had a chance of winning league weight divi-
sions. The team was led by co-captains D.
Grohe, and E. Brasier. Other contributing se-
niors were J. Collins, M. Franzoni, S. Gale, J.
Peterson and J. Neal. The team expects great
things next year, with lots of underclassmen
returning. The Freshmen on this years team
were outstanding and are expected to be very
successful in the future.

COACH: Mr. B. Dunn

The 1987-88 edition of Girls Win-
ter Track was a very young team.
The only seniors were Captain
Michelle Peterson, Marion
O'Donnell and Michelle St.
Pierre. They formed the backbone
of the team. With no Juniors on
the team," Silver Lake can expect
to do better next year. A contin-
gent of Freshmen and Sopho-
mores led by Rene Gaudet, Susan
St. Pierre, Amy Campbell, Cathy
La Pierre, Jen Cloud, and Ginnie
Dessiata will give notice to the
maturity of the Silver Lake team.

COACH Mr. F. Watson

This was the first year for winter
track in a long time. The majority of
the team consisted of veterans of
Spring Track. It was a learning ex-
perience for the team as they en-
countered a new environment and
displayed a great enthusiasm dur-
ing the season. Seniors on the team
were Captain Tom Anderson, Bill
Egan, Jim Hawley, Jason Carey,
Kevin Piscioere, Mark Cazeault and
Jason Clark. The team is composed
primarily of underclassmen, and
with continued expected progress
they expect a great improvement
next season.

COACH: Mr. R. Mills

As a result of massive graduation losses, the 1987-88 Silver Lake Hockey
Team faced the greatest challenge in the history of the program. To
carry on the winning tradition was a monumental task for the club.
Although in a rebuilding year, the team refused to adopt an attitude of
waiting until next year. The aim was to win now through hard work,
toughness, discipline, and team work. Seniors that made a contribution
were captain Kevin Orcutt, Robb MacDonald, Sean Dorsey, David Con-

expects to do very well. Coach Rafferty

will go beyond the first round of the state

The teams Seniors include, Marlene

The Silver Lake boy's varsity promises much success this year, as they prepare to defend their crown. The Lakers are
coming off their most successful season in history, as a 15-1 regular season record led Silver Lake to its first league title
since 1963.

Despite the loss of five seniors to graduation, the Lakers welcome back four returning starters this Spring. The Lakers will
look to Senior Dan Rakauskas, Deane Lawrence, and Bob Harrington, along with the only other returning starter. Junior

A message of caring to:

Kristen Casey

Now that you have learned that love doesn't mean

leaning, that kisses aren't contracts, and presents aren't

promises . . . You have begun to accept defeats with

your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of a

woman, not the grief of a child. You now plant your

own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of

waiting for someone to bring you flowers. You have

learned that you can endure . . . that you really are

strong and you really do have worth, and that with

every new tomorrow comes the dawn.

With all our love . . .

remind me just the memory of your face. Take a look at me now. . . (Phil Collins).

When this book first falls into the
hands of the seniors it will be the
most widely read book at Silver Lake.
After time passes, it will be put away
on a shelf to collect dust and be for-
gotten. Years from now, when you
rediscover it and remember the mem-
ories, good and bad, all our work will
have paid off. We'd like to thank the
staff, editors and especially our
advisors, Mrs. Napolitano, Mrs.
Pierce and Mr. Sorrento.
